We couldn’t have found a cosier spot in nature to introduce Willow to her first scenic getaway. Our weekend glamping at Africamps Pat Busch in Robertson was the perfect start to our new life as a travel family. Peaceful, humble and oh so beautiful, this reserve is only 2.5 hours outside of Cape Town.
Willow was just 7 weeks old on this trip.
We were nervous to all the unknowns of traveling with a baby. However, the unfamiliar is where Rudolph and I seem to live our best lives. Our nerves became completely overshadowed by our excitement. Fresh mountain air, canvas walls and quality time is always going to be a good idea for our family.
The Glamping Tent
My parents joined us to share in this special occasion. The five of us fit perfectly!

What we love about the Africamps boutique glamping experience is their consistency. Their tents are all identical on the inside. This means that if you fall in love with their offering in one destination you can continue to enjoy their camps across South Africa, knowing what to expect each time. >> View our stay at Africamps in Wellington
The details
The tents all have 2 bedrooms (one with a double bed and one with a double and a single bunk above). It is ideal for 2 couples or one couple with their 3 children. Both bedrooms have cupboard space and open onto the same bathroom. The lounge area has a self-catering kitchen, dining table, couch and indoor fireplace. *Just pack with some extra hangers if you like to hang all your clothes up like us.
Quality time in nature
This weekend was all about quality time. We ate long leisurely breakfasts on our deck, roasted marshmallows and danced Willow to sleep in front of the fireplace.
Africamps offers Breakfast Baskets and Dinner Baskets which makes the weekend that much easier to plan and pack for. We really recommend these added features, especially the breakfast baskets.
Each morning as we unzipped our tent, we were welcomed by dramatic mountainscapes and fresh dewy air. We would wrap Willow up and take her outside to gaze in wonderment at her beautiful country.
Each tent offers a different view. From our instagram stalk, this tent (tent number 7) seemed to offer the best, uninterrupted views – and it didn’t disappoint.
Pat Busch Mountain Reserve
We took Willow for a few Wintery walks through Cape Fynbos filled pathways and dry Autumn forests. There is just so much to see. It is easy to see why this venue hosts so many weddings. The photographic opportunities here in terms of scenery is endless.
Pat Busch is just around the corner from the Robertson Wine Route.
As much as we loved coming here in cool weather, we would love to return in Summer to enjoy the dam and the swimming pool (you can view all the pictures on their website).
Why we love glamping
Weekend getaways aren’t just about the fun activities or day naps. They’re about escaping. They offer you the opportunity to connect with the people you have chosen to travel with. Glamping in particular allows you to slow down and immerse yourself in nature – with all the benefits of camping but without any of the “roughing it”.
We glamp not only to be calmed and inspired by the natural wonders of South Africa but also to bond as a family. Take away our laptops, household duties, work calls and everything else that distracts us during the week and put us in a cosy canvas home any day!!
