If there’s one thing a global pandemic has taught us, it’s how to get creative when it comes to “stay at home” date nights. We thought we would share our top 10 romantic at home date ideas with you.
“Quarantine and chill” can get pretty romantic if you set the mood ;)!
10 Romantic at Home Date Ideas
1: Make homemade pizzas together
Dim the lights, put on a good playlist and pour yourselves a glass of vino. This is the perfect start to any home date night!
We ordered a make-it-yourself box kit from Bacini’s and spent the night creating our own Italian pizzas. We had so much fun rolling out the dough and just catching up.
2: Go camping in the garden
This sounds like a mission but it’s so worth it! Especially on those days when you feel you’ve spent too much time indoors.
We recommend setting up on a Saturday morning and spending the whole day in the “campsite”. We filled our day making potjies and jaffles on the braai, day napping in the tent and playing cards.
3: Set up a self-care day
Create a pampering date with some homemade face masks and sugar-based back scrubs for the shower. Ending off with candles and couple massages! Who doesn’t love some “self-care” and affection?
4: Neflix and chill
This one is obvious – but it’s such a goodie! Make things interesting by putting a cosy mattress on the floor and adding fairy lights to the room!
5: Breakfast dates
Morning dates are the best because it starts your day off in such a happy space. We love making waffles or smoothie bowls to enjoy in the garden.
Whatever you like, just put your phones away, add some flowers or greenery to the table and a chill playlist and BAZINGA – it’s a date!
6: Bath dates for the win
If your bath is big enough or your legs are short enough 😉 then surprise your partner with a steamy, candle lit bubble bath! This gesture (especially from Jen’s perspective) will win you all the browny points! Brownies in bed are good too 😉 !!
7: Set up a glamping picnic
We spent our 5 year wedding anniversary in quarantine and this is what we did. We tied a couple of bed sheets to our washing line, set out a picnic blanket and added some “ambiance” decor.
We couldn’t stop laughing at each other trying to set this up with our garden pegs! The setup was as fun as the actual glamping picnic! *Tip: Don’t expect it to look like Pinterest, just work with what you have!
8: Cosy drinks by the fire
If you have a fireplace, a braai, or even a small heater in your lounge, this is a great place to set up some pillows and cuddle up with a glass of wine!
9: Do productive activities together
Although seemingly unromantic, being productive together can make for incredible bonding time.
We really enjoy working out together in the garden and competitively improving our dart skills.
Our favourite activity at the moment is definitely working on our house. Designing and building home decor/renovation projects together has been so rewarding! Seeing our house slowly come together one diy shelf and painted wall at a time has really lifted our spirits. It’s been our “pro” to staying at home over traveling.
We also spent one day pruning our garden which resulted in a lot of fierce chopping and weed RAGING – a great activity to direct any lockdown frustrations you may have onto a useful cause ;)!
10: Stay in bed all Sunday
Whether it’s your actual bed or a Christmas Bed you’ve set up in front of the TV – don’t feel bad to just do nothing and call it a date!
A “date” at the end of the day is doing something together that you both love and that creates some version of quality time! So if sleeping through this pandemic holding hands is your vibe, then go for it 😉 !!
Much love, the married wanderers.
Such a lovely list of ideas!
