We recently took a trip up to the Cederberg Wilderness Area – one of the most uniquely scenic places in South Africa.
And after wandering around this large CapeNature wilderness area – we really want to share with you one of our favourite and affordable spots to stay and explore: the Cederberg Algeria Campsite and Wilderness Cottages.
Cederberg Algeria Campsite
The first impression of this campsite says everything. A narrow road which parts the glassy Rondegat river, met by towering blue gum trees on the other side that shade over the camp below.
This 48 site campsite offers both electricity and shade from the towing trees above. The best sites in our opinion are the ones highest up (enroute to the hike entrance).

Cederberg Algeria Wilderness Cottages
A new extension to the campsite, these cottages are SO cosy!
For roughly R650 per night, this 2 bedroom self catering cottage is perfect for 4 adults and 2 kids (no pets), who want the rustic feel of Algeria, but with all the necessary comforts a campsite doesn’t quite offer ;).
This cottage was perfect for our Winter escape. Our favourite features were definitely the indoor fireplace and the bay window in the master bedroom (a perfect spot to wake up with a steamy coffee and enjoy the views).
The deck/braai area is beautiful. Perfectly positioned to showcase the warm light that passes over the mountains during sunset.
Algeria Waterfall
You can’t visit Algeria without hiking up to the waterfall. Just a 3 hour return hike from the camp, this easy hike is very rewarding.
But the waterfall isn’t the only reason to explore this route. At the waterfall the view back down towards the camp is unreal. Dramatic panoramic rock cliffs and orange mountainscapes enough to make you teary eyed!!
Algeria is a perfect outdoorsy weekend away from Cape Town – we can’t wait to go back!!
Surrounded by mountains on the banks of the Rondegat River, Sas se Werf offers guests peace and tranquillity. It has two bedrooms, accommodating up to four guests. The cottage is located about m from the Algeria office at the Bosherberge, near Uikyk Pass.
