Romantic Luxury Stay in Franschhoek
Picture strolling around in full white bath robes, surrounded by enchanting mountain views, impeccable food and luxurious tubs..
Turns out this isn’t just one of our over exaggerated day dreams, but an actual place, the Franschhoek Country House & Villas.
We spent a full weekend at this 5 Star Boutique Hotel and are still mourning the fact that we had to leave!!
Franschhoek Country House & Villas
We stayed in one of their Villa Suites – arguably one of the best suites within the entire Cape Winelands region. It’s old world romantic design set amongst the country side, makes it the perfect mini-moon destination or anniversary getaway!
Romeo & Juliet feels all weekend..
Our luxurious Villa Suite
As we entered our “room”, we were completely mesmerised (and then slightly concerned that we were in the wrong place). Surely this wasn’t all for us?
The large suite is 100sqm and comes with a separate lounge, bathroom and two balconies off the master bedroom. Our favourite touch – a note placed on our pillow every evening with the following day’s weather forecast.
The second smaller balcony looks out on to a forest backdrop – from where we watched the occasional passing winetram and resident African Eagle Owl.
The bathroom has one of our most appreciated features in any hotel – a double basin 😉!!
On our second evening we arrived back to our bedroom to the complete surprise of fresh rose petals scattered all around the bath. It is a small gesture but one that creates such a phenomenal setting.
Opulent Features
The Country House felt to us like a small village filled with everything we would need for a weekend of pure indulgence. Starting with the pool area that overlooks the Franschhoek mountain range.
They also offer vintage bicycles for hire which you can use to visit the nearby wineries, coffee cafes and the Franschhoek main road itself (roughly 5kms away).
Their shuttle offers complimentary trips to town and back which comes in handy during those wine-filled dinner dates (when in Franschhoek).
Our weekend highlights
Why tell you when we can show you..
The Monneaux Restaurant
We had the pleasure of spending the evening at one of Franschhoek’s oldest and most renown culinary establishments.
The Monneaux Restaurant is next door to the Country House and is well appreciated for their tasting menu, contemporary cuisine and fine wines.
Surrounding Activities in Franschhoek
If you stay for a weekend like we did, we almost want to recommend that you don’t leave the hotel (it’s just so pretty and relaxing). We really enjoyed sitting in the common area for the complimentary drinks served between 2pm – 5pm. It was a great way to meet the other guests and to share stories and recommendation of Franschhoek over a glass of wine.
But if you feel like an outing – then this is how we spent our time:
A Scenic Cycle
We hired the hotel’s bicycles and cycled down the road to what was one of the most scenic passes we’ve seen in Franschhoek.
Wine Estate Visits
The Mullineax & Leeu Estate is a great destination to visit during your cycle for wine tasting, garden walks and pretty architecture. It is a short 10 minute cycle away from the hotel.
Terbodore Coffee Roastery
Just next door to the hotel you will smell the inviting aromas of this roastery. One of our favourite local coffees for sure!
Otherwise this website is quite handy if you are wanting to research everything to see and do in >> Franschhoek !!
